Desperate for a clue to the Sat NYT puzzle, I googled one of the clues - and found this blog. You can read solving notes for each day's NYT puzzle (how this made it into Google so quickly is amazing to me...must be part of their blog search results ... and it IS blogger).

I'm going to read the notes of this solver once I'm finished (or vanquished by) today's puzzle.

Deb and worked on this today. We didn't complete it ourselves. But we had a really funny mistake - that I wish had been in the actual puzzle.

SPOILER ALERT

The theme of this puzzle is "Green" - there are also many French refererences. Anyway, we had 83 down as BERET. But then we decided that 90 across as SIGNALTO DRIVE FORWARD (for clue "Green Light")- but that would make the R in BERET a D. So we said, how about BIDET (for clue GREEN ____). That would make 44 across SPECIAL FORCES LATRINE. I just thought that was such a good pun it HAD to be right. The real answers are the mundane BERET, SPECIAL FORCES SOLDIER, and SIGNAL TO DRIVE YOUR CAR.
