Why diet and exercise plan, you say? We lost our kitchen and first floor powder room on July 9. No stove or running water on the first floor. We’ve moved our refrigerator and microwave into our dining room. We’re eating a lot of salads. ...

If the Jetta gets the same gas mileage as the Prius but takes diesel (which is the most expensive fuel right now), how can Auburn Volkswagen argue that the TDI is the preferrable option?

Quoted: One Auburn car dealer says he has a way to save on gas money, but the gas-saving car he's promoting isn't what you might think. He says his car can beat the nation's top selling hybrid, the Toyota Prius.

Volkswagon's new Jetta Turbo Diesel hasn't even hit the Seattle area market, but one Auburn Volkswagon dealer is throwing down the gauntlet to the king of hybrid sales. The Prius touts 47 miles per gallon, while the new Jetta TDI turbo diesel touts 47. The challenge: A road trip from Auburn, Wash., to San Francisco on one tank of gas.

Check out how much carbon dioxide your car emits a year. I drive a Mazda 3, which , by comparison, is not a "gaz guzzler". But because of my daily commute from Fremont to Boeing plants in Everett, Renton, and Bellevue, (30 miles + seattle traffic) it's technically a gaz guzzler.

Quoted: TerraPass allows consumers to easily and affordably eliminate the environmental impact of driving their cars by purchasing carbon emission offsets. Help prevent global warming. TerraPass is a global warming solution that reduces carbon dioxide air pollution. Your car puts several tons of carbon dioxide into the air every year. TerraPass takes it back out. Easy, effective, affordable.

Love this column from Slate. It's settled - a hybrid is still more energy efficient!

Quoted: I'm shopping for a car, and my tree-hugging pals are pushing me to get a Prius. But it seems wasteful to buy a brand-new car, given all the energy that goes into the production process. Wouldn't it be greener to get a certified, pre-owned vehicle with decent gas mileage?
