I'm not sure that it's entirely about reforms. I don't think India's economy is diversified enough that it wouldn't be feeling the effects of a U.S./global slump... Plus, its previous rapid rate of growth was unsustainable. Seems like a combination of factors.

Quoted: Growth is slipping, stocks are down 40%, and foreign stock market investors are fleeing. Business blames the ruling coalition for failing to make reforms.

Checking this documentary out at SIFF tomorrow. I hear it's one of India's stronger entries, curious to see it...

Quoted: “What sin did I commit to be born a woman?” These chilling words of 21-year-old housemaid Lakshmi reverberate throughout Mumbai-based filmmaker Nishtha Jain’s extraordinary documentary. Jain turns the camera on her part-time maid, and in the process illuminates the complex relationship between employer and servant, filmmaker, and subject.

Quoted: The ’sari’ or ’saree’ is India’s traditional garment for women. It is a strip of unstitched cloth worn draped over the body in various styles. But recently in a fashion show, fashion designer Satya Paul made quite a statement with his Google Saree.
