"It was an awkward game tonight. Offensively we were very ragged. Our timing was off and we tried to do too much."
-- Phil Jackson
Tonight's win ties the Lakers' best start in franchise history (17-2). Let's pause and reflect on that. The Lakers are an old franchise, 61 years, and this is their best start. The Lakers are historically a good franchise, with 14 NBA championships, and this is their best start. Do you think the expectations for the season are high?
Final score: 105-92

Nice. InfiniteHoops was unexpectedly mentioned on ChicagoTribune.com today.

I don't believe that the NBA under Stern would allow Seattle to buy/create a team any time soon. As in within 10 years.

This is a must-read for NBA fans and a great article in general. My favorite part is when Elgin goes Clay Davis on chartered flights and the pampered NBA lifestyle and then asks casually, "You ever hear about the time we crashed in a cornfield?"
Also, Mike Dunleavy is a cheater. Tell your friends.
1 FaverShareViewed: 4 TimesQuoted: But Elgin's 38-19-5 makes no sense whatsoever. I don't see how this happened. It's inconceivable. A U.S. Army Reservist at the time, Elgin lived in a barracks in the state of Washington, leaving only whenever they gave him a weekend pass ... and even with that pass, he could only fly coach on flights with multiple connections to meet the Lakers wherever they happened to be playing. Once he arrived, he would throw on a uniform and battle the best NBA players alive on back-to-back nights.
Nice. InfiniteHoops had an unexpected mention in a round-up on Mashable yesterday.
1 FaverShareViewed: 3 TimesQuoted: InfiniteHoops is a cool way to form or join pick-up basketball games in a hurry. If you want to organize a game you just enter the location and day and time and others can sign up to play. Conversely, if you’re a player, then just search for any games in your neck of the woods and join.

yikes... apparently Nike reps have confiscated all the tapes which show LeBron James getting dunked on by a college Sophomore.
1 FaverViewed: 5 TimesQuoted: On Monday night, a pair of videographers recorded Xavier's Jordan Crawford dunking on James during a pickup game. After James allegedly huddled with Nike executive Lynn Merritt, the tapes were confiscated.

Thou shalt not dunk on the King and live to YouTube about it. Predictably, Nike came to James' rescue and insisted the tapes were commandeered only because videotaping pickup games after hours is against policy. It has also been suggested that James, who recently underwent facial surgery and is probably not in game shape, would be more concerned about his conditioning level than the dunk. - Roldy - Jun 11 20091 FaverViewed: 4 Times
