Nice video on making Ethernet patch cable. Tonight was the first time I tried this. I spent an hour of frustration due to "poor technique". It's really important to get all the wires flat so that they slide in an orderly manner into the RJ-45 connector.

Deb also helped me out (I knew SHE would be good at building cables - she so CRAFTY).

3' patch cables are selling for $14 at Best Buy. So, this was the most economical way to get the dozen or so cables I needed quickly. Online prices I've seen in the $1 range including shipping.

We use Split 50 66-block punchdown blocks in our office. The left and right pairs are electrically connected in each row. Bridging clips are used to connect left and right halves.

This is too awesome for words. I knew a guy who designed very, very high end speakers (> $10,000), and he used lamp cord as speaker cable in one of his test rooms.
