Hmm... maybe that Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 AF-S VR is overkill. For instance if your SLR camera's sensor is just 24mm long you need to worry about lens performance till just 14mm on the horizontal axis of your MTF chart.

Save some $$$ and select a lens for your camera & shooting habits. An MTF chart will not tell you all you need to know but it's one place to start.
