A friend from Bangalore gave me this book as a gift and raved about how authentic & simple it is. We were eating at a S. Indian restaurant at the time, and the chef/owner actually mentioned that he loves this book. Really excited to try some recipes from it!

Quoted: The author, an Indian food writer, presents dozens of recipes for the various courses of a South Indian vegetarian meal, most accompanied by inviting full-page color photographs. American cooks may recognize a few dishes from Indian restaurants, but most will be new.

Fascinating...

Quoted: In India a local non-governmental organisation has invented a new sort of zero sum which, it hopes, will leave everyone better off: the zero-rupee note.

Oh my god, parts of the article I co-wrote were plagiarized in this WSJ piece!

Quoted: The Wall Street Journal has scrubbed an article from its website after learning that it was plagiarized from several sources. "A Nov. 10 "New Global Indian" online column by New York City freelance writer Mona Sarika has been found to contain information that was plagiarized from several publications, including the Washington Post, Little India, India Today and San Francisco magazine," a notice to readers now reads where the column once lived.

Just saw this Bollywood movie yesterday, and it was fantastic! Loved the writing, the acting, and the fact that the music was just sort of incorporated into the story ... no busting out into song :)

Quoted: “Wake Up Sid,” a genial romantic comedy, follows two tracks: the coming of age of the spoiled Sid and the story of Sid’s friend Aisha, a woman just arrived in Mumbai to become a writer.

Mother Teresa never even lived in Albania so I don't see how it'd be a "return" of the remains... I hope this doesn't turn into a 3-way argument between Albania, Macedonia, and India.

Quoted: India rejects a demand by Albania for the return of the remains of Mother Teresa, currently buried in Calcutta.

Best quote from the article, in reference to Obama saying Gandhi is one of the people he'd most like to be able to dine with: “It would probably be a really small meal because he didn’t eat a lot.”

Quoted: President Barack Obama has honoured Mahatma Gandhi on the Indian leader's birthday, saying his teachings transformed American society.
