1 FaverShareViewed: 2 TimesThis is the sing-song translation attributed to Robin Flowers. All this time I've been naive, Pangur Ban is quite a read.
Quoted:
So in peace our tasks we ply,
Pangur Ban, my cat and I;
In our arts we find our bliss,
I have mine, and he has his.
This was a much more enjoyable translation for me to read. Comparing the two translations (Heaney's to Flowers') offers fascinating reflections on style, bias, skill, taste, audience, etc.
Thanks, Carol!

Fun reading from The Boston Globe website.
1 FaverViewed: 9 TimesQuoted: (...) The first thing to know is that the mind isn't a mirror, or even a passive observer of reality. Much of what we think of as being out there actually comes from in here, and is a byproduct of how the brain processes sensation. In recent years scientists have come up with a number of simple tricks that expose the artifice of our senses, so that we end up perceiving what we know isn't real - tweaking the cortex to produce something uncannily like hallucinations.
