日々の仕事や生活の中で自分のやりたいこと、すべきことなどをかなりわかりやすく図示できるのがこの「MindManager」というソフト。いわゆるマインドマッピング（マインドマップ）と呼ばれるものを簡単に作成できるため、自分の考えを人に説明したりプレゼンテーションを行う際にはかなり使えます。一般的なタスク管理や計画、議事録、組織図、ブレインストーミングなど、いろいろなシーンでも応用が利くため、仕事の効率を大幅にアップすることも可能です。

また、フォーチュントップ100社中85社にも採用されており、開発元のMindjetの顧客一覧によると、BMW・IBM・Amazon.com・Nike・スターバックス・コカコーラ・オックスフォード大学・Cisco・HP・マイクロソフト・Oracle・モトローラ・ノキアなどなどといった各種有名企業や大学、教育機関、政府などに採用されているとのこと。企画書やプレゼン資料、会議議事録などに活用することで、社員1人あたりの残業時間が週5時間短くなるという統計も出ているそうです。

というわけで、実際にダウンロードしてインストールし、どれぐらい簡単に使えるものなのかを試してみました。

これはデザイナーのみならず導入必須のソフトウェアと言えそうだ。

Webサイトを作る際には、モックアップが必要になる。それをベースにして「ここをこうしよう」「次はどこに遷移させよう」といった議論が可能になる。頭の中だけではイメージがはっきりせず、意見も出しづらい。

ドラッグアンドドロップでモックアップを作成できる

そんなモックアップを作成しようと思ったら、紙やHTMLオーソライズソフトウェア、画像編集ソフトウェアを使うことが多かった。だが画像編集ソフトウェアではチェックボックスやテキストボックスが作りづらい、HTMLオーソライズソフトウェアではデザインの微調整が面倒、紙では重ね書きしづらい…とそれぞれに欠点があった。そこでこれを導入してみよう。

今回紹介するオープンソース・ソフトウェアはPencil、Firefoxアドオンとして動作するモックアップ作成ソフトウェアだ。

個人的にはモックアップの作成にBalsamiq Mockupsを使っている。これは手書き風のポップな画面を作るのにはぴったりだ。そしてPencilはちょっと正確な画面を作るのに適している。何よりオープンソースであり、無償だ（Balsamiq Mockupsは有償）。

Ondrej and Josef Chybik won a biannual competition to design a low-energy rural timber home. Pretty! I especially like how the living areas are raised from ground level to provide insulation and protection from the elements.

Holy mackerel is this Australian church conversion stunning. The upstairs has been converted into open living space and the downstairs has been enclosed as private bedrooms. etc. Gorgeous.
