He's a db.

Quoted: The other villain of the moment is the global warming "denier." Anyone who disagrees, even in the slightest, must be ridiculed. On "60 Minutes" last weekend, Al Gore said: "They're almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the Earth is flat. That demeans them a little bit, but it's not that far off."

Quoted:The "60 Minutes" piece wasn't just filled with misrepresentations of opinion; it had plenty of Gore-style hypocrisy. He was embroiled in controversy when it was revealed his mansion used 20 times more energy than the average American. His explanation? "Since then" his house has been retrofitted with solar panels. I'm sure Eliot Spitzer hasn't been renting many women since he was caught either. Just watched last night. Pretty compelling argument. I'm pretty convinced that:

- Humans are having a dramatic effect on the CO2 in the atmosphere.
- Levels of CO2 are at higher levels than they have been for 100's of million years.
- The planet is on the high end of it's historical temperature over a similarly long time-scale.

Seems to me, the primary solutions are:
- Reduce the amount of energy each human consumes.
- Add more Nuclear power to our mix of sources.
- Reduce the number of humans on the planet.
- Possibly a technology fix to scrub CO2 from the atmosphere.

Gore never showed this - but if you look at the human contribution to CO2 vs. that produced by plants - it's still a tiny percentage. I know Gore is trying to get his message out - but he would be more effective if he had a more balanced explanation of the science.

I also feel that there are some BENEFITS to global warming. Gore just shows how terrible and CHANGE is. For any environmental change, there will be winners and losers - it's not an unmitigated catastrophe. I also think his scare tactics about ocean rises of 20 feet are unwarranted. Current projections are for sea rising 0.3 mm per year (about an inch per decade).

Quoted: See the Truth: Pledge to see An Inconvenient Truth on opening weekend at the film's official website. An Inconvenient Truth is a feature film documentary on the Earth's climate crisis. The film features Al Gore and is directed by Davis Guggenheim. A Paramount Classics Release.

Faves Comments: 3 | View original page

<dc:subject>global warming,environment,co2,gore</dc:subject>
