同アプリがようやくApp Storeで公開された。しかし、最大の問題は「近くの［near me］」誰かが書いたコンテンツがないことだ。これは予想できなかったわけではない。アプリが始まったたばかりなのだから。しかし、私はこのサービスが意味のある情報を集めることは、永遠にないのではないかと心配している。新アプリとユーザー不足につきもののこの「ニワトリと卵」問題との戦いを支援するべくnrmeは、アプリは全米で利用できるのだが、マーケティングの焦点はサンフランシスコに絞っている。
バーが満席だとか、iPhone 3Gのような熱い商品が店に入荷したことなどを、みんなに知らせることができるのは、非常に魅力的だ。利他的な性質によってコミュニティ的なものが作られることも考えられる。現実はといえばiPhoneには何十という位置情報ベースアプリが存在しているが（nrmeと非常によく似たものもある）、ほとんどは知られることもなくコンテンツが集まらない。現状を見るにつけ、本当に使える位置情報アプリが出てくるためには、TwitterかFacebookのように実績のあるプレーヤーが位置情報をサポートするのを待たなくてはならないのかもしれないと思う。
似たような機能を持つ位置情報対応サービスには、 GeoGraffitiがあるほか、ある意味ではTwinkleもそうだ。
