A teacher’s aide in Fresno, Calif. has been charged with the unthinkable: engaging in a sexual relationship with an underage student. The kicker? The victim is a special needs student.

The abuse came to light after the student told another teacher’s aide about the relationship, which reportedly dates back to 2015. That aide then took the situation to police.

Authorities believe the relationship was on and off since 2015, and that the 35-year-old aid provided the victim with alcohol and performed sexual acts with him.

Theresa Marie Ramirez, the accused, was charged with four felony counts including statutory rape plus a misdemeanor for supplying alcohol to a minor. Court documents show the victim described details of Ramirez’s apartment to authorities and provided a description of a tattoo Ramirez has on her body.

Unfortunately this isn’t an isolated incident. Another school in the same district charged a teacher with having sex with an eighth-grade student.

“It’s extremely serious,” Lt. Joe Gomez with the Fresno Police Department said. “It’s really a bad situation when this happens.”
