East Carolina defensive end Darius Commissiong has been dismissed from their program following animal cruelty charges, according to ESPN.com’s Brett McMurphy.

Police responded to reports of a possible disturbance at Commissiong’s apartment where they found a deceased, one-year-old Shih Tzu. A Necropsy reportedly found the dog suffered three cracked ribs; hemorrhaging in the abdomen, left eye and brain; fractured teeth, a fractured femur, and a ruptured liver as a result of the abuse. Commissiong is currently being held on $25,000 bond.

A former three-star recruit, Commissiong was dismissed from Georgia Tech for violating the school’s student-athlete code of conduct. He played sparingly in 2015, recording 10 total tackles in seven games.
