A former teacher will serve a year in prison after she was convicted for having sex with a student — in her home.
Brandi Lynn Vaughn, 25, a former Madison Southern High School teacher, has sex with a student twice during the summer of 2015, according to a report in the Richmond Register.
The boy was 16 at the time, and the encounters occurred at a state park and at her home, when she was married.
She has since divorced.
Vaughn’s attorney asked for probation, but a judge said he needed to send a strong message that her behavior was unacceptable. Vaughn will have to serve at least 20% of her sentence — roughly two months — and will have to register as a sex offender.
Vaughn pleaded guilty to using an electronic device to induce a minor to engage in sexual activities, a felony. In exchange, prosecutors dropped first-degree sexual abuse charges; two counts of third-degree sodomy; one count each of third-degree rape and evidence tampering.
Her cause was heard last week in Madison Circuit Court in Kentucky, and she’ll serve her time at the Madison County Detention Center.
