A New Mexico man completely lost his temper after his neighbors’ loud sex got to him.
To solve the problem, Reuben Cook, 36, decided to set his apartment on fire around 10 p.m., Sunday.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Cook told police he “tried to burn anything he could think of ” so he could get escape the noise by being put in jail.
“He stated that he heard people having sex upstairs and making a lot of noise,” an officer wrote in Cook’s criminal complaint. “Mr. Cook stated that by starting the fires he could go to ‘prison’ and get away from the noise.”
Luck was clearly on Cook’s side.
Cook was taken to a county jail and was charged with arson, the Albuquerque Journal reported.
According to the Journal, Cook’s father, David Cook, said his son suffered a stroke seven years ago, causing him not to think straight.
“They had to remove part of his brain,” David Cook told The Albuquerque Journal. “He’s not in control of the things he thinks. It was not something that he planned.”
According to jail spokesman Nataura Powdrell-Moore, Cook was released from jail on Tuesday on his own recognizance.
