A former Texas teacher has been convicted of having sex with not one, but two students — and it looks like she’s getting off with a slap on the wrist.
Haeli Noelle Wey, 28, a former math teacher, isn’t expected to serve any jail time and won’t have to register as a sex offender under terms of a plea bargain, according to several media reports.
Wey pleaded guilty to two counts of having an improper relationship with a student. The students were 17 at the time — the age of consent in Texas — but Texas law prohibits teachers from having sex with their students.
The prosecutor in the case is recommending 10 years of deferred adjudication probation, according to CBS News, The judge still has to approve the recommendation.
One of the victims said he met Wey at a student ministry program, and she accompanied him and his family on a trip to Africa. The sexual relations happened on that trip, according to the CBS report. After the trip to Africa, she also had sex, according to the report, with a second teenager while on a hike.
Wey will be sentenced March 10.
