On Thursday night, pop singer Adam Lambert returned to the “American Idol” stage and performed the song that helped make him a household name in 2009.

Lambert’s 2009 performance of “Mad World,” by Tears For Fears and famously covered by Gary Jules, helped show the national audience that he was capable of reaching heights greater than initially predicted.

In the seven years since his first appearance, Lambert has gone on to have a semi-successful solo career and has also stood in for Freddie Mercury during several Queen tours.

While bathed in a familiar blue light on Thursday, Lambert performed “Mad World” one more time and showed the audience that, though his voice and appearance had matured, he was still capable of blowing them away.
