Former boxer James Butler is perhaps most infamously known for the 2004 murder of Sam Kellerman, the brother of ESPN personality and boxing commentator Max Kellerman.

But Butler’s thuggishness was solidified years before that, after he sucker punched Richard Grant immediately following his upset loss to Grant at a November, 23, 2001 charity bout for the surviving New York firemen and police officers of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The barefisted cheap shot left Grant with a dislocated jaw and a lacerated tongue.

Following the incident, Butler was convicted with aggravated assault and served four months at Riker’s Island detention facility in New York City.
