Stone Cold Steve Austin showed just why they call him the Texas Rattlesnake when he snaked his way to victory in the 1997 Royal Rumble.

Austin was technically eliminated by Bret Hart towards the end of the match, but since the ref didn’t see, he was able to sneak his way back into the ring, eliminate most of the remaining competitors, including Hart, and walk away with the W.

This controversial finish only served to fuel the ongoing feud between Austin and Hart, a feud that reached its peak with the No Disqualification Match at Wrestlemania 13. It’s a match that saw Austin turn face and Hart turn heel and that many claim is responsible for the ushering in of the Attitude Era.
