Days after the Kimberly family went missing off the coast of Florida, authorities have sadly discovered a body, which one family member has confirmed is that of 17-year-old Rebecca Kimberly, according to People.
The Kimberly family — Ace Kimberly, 45, Roger, 13, Donny, 15, and Rebecca, 17 — had been living on 29-foot sailboat in Sarasota, Fla. for the last year and disappeared Sunday.
Authorities discovered two of the family’s kayaks Wednesday, as well as a body with a life preserver on. Other items belonging to the family were also found.
ABC News reported that four water bottles, six life jackets, tennis shoes, a basketball and a propane tank were found.
These items were found 33 miles into the Gulf of Mexico.
Sadie Dilts, an aunt, told Today that the family “hadn’t heard from them since Sunday, so then I kind of figured that it wasn’t good. Feels like I’ve lost one of my own kids.”
Since Pauline Solsberry divorced Ace Kimberly nine years ago, the father had been raising the kids. He had full custody of the children and she was described as estranged.
She spoke to WTSP News 10 after hearing the news that her kids had gone missing.
“They seemed to be happy,” she said. “Even though I don’t like the man, I hoped he would be taking care of his children and keep them safe no matter what happened.”
“I want my children,” she said. “[I want them to know] that I love them […] hope they’re safe […] to be safe. I don’t care if they ever want to see me just be safe….even if you don’t want to see me be safe and come home.”
