Late Tuesday night, news broke that a 2-year-old boy who has since been identified as Lane Graves was pulled into Disney World’s Seven Seas Lagoon by an alligator.

The boy’s parents, Matt and Melissa Graves, rushed into the water to try and save their son, but were unsuccessful.

A frantic search for the child ensued.

Sadly, police announced Wednesday that they had recovered Lane’s body.

According to The Wrap, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has issued the company’s first official statement about the tragedy, and it is heartbreaking.

As a parent and a grandparent, my heart goes out to the Graves family during this time of devastating loss. My thoughts and prayers are with them, and I know everyone at Disney joins me in offering our deepest sympathies.

The Nebraska family was on vacation with their three kids.
