This story has it all: a successful romantic gesture, a healthy and delicious meal and a fantastic branding opportunity.

One lucky Filipino girl had the wherewithal (and devious foresight, no doubt) to realize flowers are just so yesterday. Like, for Baby Boomers. Maybe Gen-Xers. Flowers are expensive, and sure, they smell lovely and look comely enough, but like everything else in this world, they decay and die. Just like relationships. So this girl, 19-year-old Annika Aguinaldo of Manila, kindly let her man, Rico Villanueva, know that for Valentine’s Day, she’d prefer something more pragmatic, more useful, definitely more tasty, and, um, unfortunately, probably more permanent than flowers.

Success! What’s more: “Not only did Aguinaldo have her tweet shared all around the world (over 30,00 retweets!) but even McDonald’s got into the act, inviting the couple for a very fancy meal in one of their very fancy restaurants.”

Smart move, Mickey D’s. Now, if only IHOP made some sort of pancake-and-waffle bouquet…

Well, what are you waiting for? Valentine’s Day’s a week away: make with the McNuggets, boys!
