It’s a wonder we don’t see more mishaps like this given the way race cars usually come flying into the pits.
It happened at Pocono Raceway Friday night, 15 laps into the ARCA Racing Series’ ModSpace 150 when Gus Dean’s number 98 Chevrolet experienced a brake failure heading into pit row. Dean’s car barreled into jack operator John House and tire changer Pedro Martinez as the car never came to a complete stop when it reached his pit box, sending the two crew members hurtling into the air.
According to islandpacket.com, Matrtinez quickly got up and staggered away, but House remained on the ground for several minutes while track medics attended to him. He eventually got up and walked to a waiting ambulance under his own power. There was reportedly no immediate update on their conditions by the end of the race. Dean, meanwhile finished the race in 19th place.
