Startling video out of El Salvador shows a doctor popping a giant cyst the size of a tennis ball growing on top a little boy’s eye.
Unsettling, to say the least. The slow growing inflammation got so big that it completely covered the child’s left eye. The condition, known as a Chalazion, typically affects people between the ages of 30 and 50 years old, and when they reach this size, the only treatment is to squeeze or cut it open.
Dr. Alberto Cota, who performed the gruesome surgery, filmed himself working on the unnamed boy. Using a scalpel, Dr. Cota cuts open the cyst and the boy cries out in pain as blood and puss spews out. The condition is caused by an obstruction in the eye ducts, in which oil from the eye is not being drained. The patient is often placed under a general or local anesthetic for the procedure.
Doctors reportedly advise holding a hot wet flannel on the affected area for up to 10 minutes several times a day. A bit of a forewarning, the video is extremely graphic.
