The queen defines what it means to keep calm and carry on.

As the Brexit vote continues to show its ripple effect throughout the world — stocks falling (and now rising), political uncertainty, a divided nation — Queen Elizabeth II is carrying on with a calm royal demeanor.

Just take a look at her demeanor when Northern Ireland’s first minister Martin McGuinness asked how she was doing.

“Well, I’m still alive anyway,” she replied with a smile.

“Ha, we’ve been quite busy. There’s been quite a lot going on,” the queen quipped.

But in a quick change in tone, she tossed aside the current national turmoil with a swift grace, joking about her recent personal celebrations: “I’ve had two birthdays, so we’ve been quite busy. Absolutely.”

The Queen has been around long enough to keep a level head through it all.
