One year ago today, music icon David Bowie passed away at the age of 69 following an 18-month battle with liver cancer.

His career spanned five decades, and he was even making music up until the point of his death. But it’s days like today that we like to look back on some of his greatest hits. Heroes, for instance. Talk about a classic.

His sci-fi, glam rock phase had an astronomical effect on music as we know it, which you’d probably understand if you’ve ever jammed out to songs like “Space Oddity” or “Ziggy Stardust.”

His penchant for churning out rock anthems, and sporting one hell of an eye patch in process, was evident in songs like “Rebel Rebel”

And who can forget his classic collaborations with the likes of Freddie Mercury and Mick Jagger.

Now if these songs alone aren’t deserving of legend status, we don’t know what is.
