Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Republican strategist Karl Rove both had some not-so-flattering things to say about Republican primary candidate Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) Wednesday.
“Sen. Paul is the worst possible candidate of the 20 or so that are running on the most important issue, which is national security,” McCain told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Wednesday. “The record is very clear that he simply does not have an understanding about the needs and the threats of United States national security.”
McCain’s comments were in response to Paul’s Tuesday comment that McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) were Obama’s “lapdogs” when it comes to foreign policy.
Moments later on the program, Rove responded to claims of whether Paul seemed “thin-skinned” following his testy interviews with CNBC’s Kelly Evans and NBC’s Savannah Guthrie.
“Certainly would look like that from the first couple of weeks,” Rove said, before adding that Paul’s behavior during these interviews “didn’t serve him well.”
