A substitute teacher in Georgia allegedly had sex with two teenage students in the course of a year.
Laura Rich was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of sexual assault by a teacher, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Rich, 38, was teaching at Ace Academy in Canton at the time of the alleged incidents. According to investigators, she had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student in the early months of 2015, and that was just half the story. Authorities say she then had another sexual affair with an 18-year-old student later that same year. Both encounters took place at her home.
School district spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said Rich was fired on Aug. 19 after the charges came to light. She’s since been barred from teaching in Cherokee County.
“Our School District has zero tolerance for inappropriate relationships between students and any adults serving in any capacity in our schools,” Jacoby said in a statement.
Rich was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center Friday where she was booked and released later the same day in lieu of $22,400 bond.
