This poker player’s run to win the Aussie Millions Main Event poker tournament has to be one of the greatest stories in poker history. Shurane Vijayaram managed to flip $130 into a cool $1.6 million, pretty much making him the Rocky Balboa of poker.

Vijayaram’s $130 got him into a satellite tournament at the Crown Casino. He won that and took his winnings to cover the cost of the $10,600 buy-in at the Aussie Millions.

It’s there that he worked his magic and, on his winning hand, called his opponent’s all-in push with a pair of fives, with multiple straight options and four of the five cards showing were higher than his pair.

His risk was obviously well worth the handsome reward he received after taking the top prize in the tournament. And get this: this is the first time Vijayaram has ever cashed in a professional poker tournament. Now, after just that one win, he’s 27th on the “All Time Money List” in Australia. Awesome stuff, right?
