This is much lighter-weight than iTunes and allows you to manipulate the contents on your iPod more directly. I downloaded this because iTunes couldn't see all the music on my iPod.

First of all. Demonoid is back up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Second of all, check out Papers. Basically like an itunes for pdfs (but better because you can search IN the documents) AND if you log in via your libraries proxy you can browse journals and download their pdfs WAY easier. There are a couple versions up on Demonoid if you want to check it out. I am still testing it out.

I really think iTunes is kind of a crappy application; there's SO MUCH wrong with it from a usability point of view (esp. on Windows).
i agree. i think it's especially bad w.r.t. how it manages your iPod. i'm happy now that i found YamiPod. it does everything i was looking for -- including "raw" access to your iPod and the ability to copy songs from your iTunes to your pc.
Does that same app work with generic MP3 players as well?
I mostly use my ipod to listen to podcasts - so the main thing is being able to automatically download from feeds, and managing synch to the ipod, and autodelete after having listened to them.
No, the app only works with the iPod.
