The funny thing is Rabi proposed to Thais in Paris too! It's kismet. You guys have to meet.

Hey Amit - I have a cool story to go with your cool story (about you not buying your fiancee a diamond ring).
My friends Thais and Rabi just got engaged recently, and Thais, like me, HATES diamond, and they often joked about him proposing to her with a ring pop. So when Rabi did propose, he used a ring pop, apple flavored :)

I hate the jewelry industry. Not only do some of them have awful ads "I'm Tom Shane, across the mall off of I-5 and 405...", but they give an AWFUL MESSAGE: "Show her how much you love her, buy her this diamond ring." It's disturbing and disgusting.
I also hate how De Beers artificially inflates the diamond inventory by holding 50% and then creating that catch phrase "a diamond is forever". That's not mentionging "blood diamond" wars that have been taken place in places like Sierra Leone.
Anyway, the people over at Ideal Bite sent me this in the mail, ecologically responsible certified green gold jewelry. Neato!

1 FaverQuoted: Indeed, when it comes to Europe, most people imagine that it's the big countries such as France and Germany that set the direction for the European Union. But it turns out that it's really Ireland. By rejecting the EU's Lisbon treaty in a referendum in June, Irish voters have single-handedly changed the course of the European project. The treaty needs the support of all 27 EU member countries to come into effect; the Irish have probably killed it.
