I'm looking at increasing the hard drive space on my Macbook Pro and this company produces hard drives which replace the DVD/CD Burner. You can put the DVD/CD Burner into an external closure and max out your hard drive capacity.

The new MCE OptiBay Hard Drive was created for users who need as much hard drive space as possible inside their MacBook Pro, MacBook, or PowerBook G4... period. The MCE OptiBay Hard Drive replaces your laptop's internal optical drive with a high performance hard drive. Now you can have unheard of capacities in laptop disk storage space for everything you need to store... digital video, music, photos, etc. Two bootable hard drives inside your system create a freedom and flexibility never before experienced in a Mac laptop... have one disk a scratch disk and the other your system/applications disk, RAID configurations, one disk Mac and the other PC, extra storage for tracks for Digital DJ's, and more. Plus, each OptiBay Hard Drive includes a portable enclosure for your SuperDrive or Combo drive so you'll still be able to use it anytime you want for loading system software or applications, as well as burning, playing, or ripping CDs and DVDs!
Gotta get me one of these!

You can replace the optical drive on your mac with more storage thanks to optidrive. That could be a nice upgrade at some point in the future! And just to show how thoughtful they are, each one comes with a firewire enclosure for your optical drive so that you don't lose that as well!
