One thing I learned when I went to an Edward Tufte seminar here in Seattle - you have to make intelligent arguments and lay out evidence in a cogent way for the viewing audience. I think Stern's review of the potential financial impact of climate change is potentially just what is needed. I really wish the US would become a leader in this fight and decrease our reliance on fossil fuels.

When I need to set persistent environment variables in Windows, I tend to want to gouge my eyes out ... right click "my computer", "properties", "advanced", "environment variables", ... and have you tried editing $PATH in that tiny edit box?!
Fortunately, I just discovered a utility called "setx.exe" which can do this from a command line (ahhhhh). You can also edit HKCU\Environment directly, if you don't feel like jumping through these ridiculous validation hoops. Yes, it's rather sad that manually editing the registry is easier than using a tool designed for editing environment variables.
