Faves for this Web page

  • This most recent DVD that I received seemed all right until I was about 15 minutes into it and realized that the subtitles didn't always pop up when the characters were speaking... Nevertheless the director did a great job capturing the story visually, so there were only a few moments when it became frustrating for me.

This film is set in 1947 India and takes a snippet out of the lives of a community of friends amidst the partition of India. It started out beautifully. (A little girl slams a plate to the ground ultimately setting up the theme of the entire movie-division of a whole)... but I thought it ended a little abruptly (I wanted to know what ultimately happened to the characters.)

The overall quality of the film seemed low budget, which I wasn’t expecting, but I think it was done well despite this. I may have given this 5 stars if I caught all the dialogue… I’ll have to try and get my hands on a better copy.

    Note:
    The director is a woman!
It’s the second film in a trilogy. Fire, Earth, Water.
It was (is still?) banned in India and Pakistan.

It can't be a good movie then, directed by a woman! j/k
