great episode - talks about the core of doing something - and how if you try to complicate it people will lose interest, but if you get to the core activity of something you'll pick things up very quickly. basically playing with stuff.

i actually learn better if i get an (uncomplicated) overview first. my learning curve tends to be steeper but i end up moving really fast after the "click" happens. i think overview is good for some people, just not in an overwhelming format like a manual. or a longass tutorial. the well-designed overall layout of software can actually serve as an overview. it's peripheral but natural because humans utilize peripheral senses all the time.
