this could be good or it could SUCK.
at least it's not Jerry Bruckheimer directing....Quoted: Award-winning Russian filmmaker Sergei Bodrov (PRISONER OF THE MOUNTAINS) illuminates the life and legend of Genghis Khan in his stunning historical epic, MONGOL. Based on leading scholarly accounts and written by Bodrov and Arif Aliyev, MONGOL delves into the dramatic and harrowing early years of the ruler who was born as Temudgin in 1162. As it follows Temudgin from his perilous childhood to the battle that sealed his destiny, the film paints a multidimensional portrait of the future conqueror, revealing him not as the evil brute of hoary stereotype, but as an inspiring, fearless and visionary leader. MONGOL shows us the making of an extraordinary man, and the foundation on which so much of his greatness rested: his relationship with his wife, Borte, his lifelong love and most trusted advisor.

Check out Scene 1 of the trailers. Incidentally, its the part I just watched on TV.

Sergei Bodrov also directed "Nomad" in 2004. Looks really similar...huge budget cool sound track, total fucking bomb (not the good kind). Way to put the government into debt!
The government of Kazakhstan has invested $40,000,000 in the movie production, making it the most expensive Kazakh film ever made.
Nonetheless, it was one of the biggest bombs in the box office, as the film was only able to scrape $79,123 out of the 40 million dollar budget, which is a gross revenue of only 0.2% of the initial production costs. While most of the critics enjoyed the cinematography and the action scenes, they criticized the film for rudimentary acting, confused directing and, for some critics who saw the English version, poor dubbing. The critics especially noted that the film had very poor screenwriting, for lines such as a scene between Mansur (Kuno Becker) and Gaykar (Ayana Yesmagambetova): 'Mansur: You have the scent of the moon', Gaykar: 'Does the moon have a scent?' . From Las Vegas Weekly
dude reeks like the moon.
yeah, okay, my interest is dwindling. i think it's funny that the guy can return a 0.2% investment on 40M bucks and still be offered a huge blockbuster job on another film. about the same thing....wut?
