I was watching a History Channel show a while ago called "Decoding the Past - Doomsday 2012: The End of Days." It was very interesting - watch the show if you can. This Wikipedia entry for 2012 mentions many bizarre recent and ancient references to this particular year (scroll down to the "Metaphysical predictions" section).
