goddammit.
i've loved this band since i was 13 yrs old.
i'd see them in a second, except 1) it's at a kinda crappily-big place
2) we're going to be right in the middle of packing and moving at this timei'm really divided.

It's beyond desperation at this point.
Quoted: Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

i'm lukewarm on rancid...but what's the venue like?
they always play a good show.
i've never been to the venue. but i'll be going for At the Gates, and now Wolf Parade too (see email i sent you), so i guess i'll find out.
i just looked at the slide show on their website. basically, take the metro (the venue) and bling it the fuck out, add in a touristy marketing scheme, invert the origins of blues while fetishizing authenticity, etcetera. i don't think i could see a show here and not feel icky. but that's just me...
the slideshow: http://www.hob.com/resources/inc/flashslideshow/FlashSlideShow.asp?name=chicago
aren't you already coming to At The Gates with me?
so long as it's not much bigger than the Metro, the intimacy of the show should be functionally present, despite the bling. that's all i really care about: keeping the crowd minimal, and the band close up.
besides, if it's as blinged as it looks, i bet the sound is totally awesome.
well, i wanted to...but $40 for @thegates??? seriously a rip off. yet another reason why HoB totally sucks. i'm sure the sound will be good though. but, fuck, who can afford to see shows when a dozen of them will cost you half a grand? mbv is my only exception on this front...
missing @the gates is a terrible decision. it's going to be AMAZING. plus you know they've been broken up for like over a decade...
anyway. i know, it's really expensive. it sucks.
but that show is going to ruuuuuule
yeah, i know how long it's been, but i'm on a budget this summer and, having spent 50$ on MBV, the idea of spending 90$ on two shows just seems absurd.
