Scroll down to the section that's titled "Casting Controversy." This really pisses me off and should've gotten more media attention. I didn't realize that most of the blackjack team from MIT (represented in the movie '21') was actually composed of Asians, although that makes sense. It's not like there's a shortage of strong Asian actors out there right now who could've played the parts. What the hell?
Quoted: Though most of the actual blackjack team was composed of Asian males, a studio executive involved in the casting process said that most of the film’s actors would be white, with perhaps an Asian female.

agreed. what about kal penn from harold & kumar? he seems really well suited to this role.
yeah. it reminded me of when we saw that movie 'americanese' at siff and the lead actor said it was the role of a lifetime because he got to play a strong asian man with sexuality and complexity. this would've been the perfect role for someone like him... so sad.
makes me soo mad. it's fine to take a story about asian americans doing something cool and switch it to a bunch of white guys, but suppose the opposite were suggested: take a story about some white guy doing something and in the movie version have an asian actor play him? i think that would not fly. boo hollywood. I think I'll avoid the movie, for this reason alone (even though the story sounds fun to watch).
same here! i just wrote to the international examiner and suggested they do an opinion piece on this if they haven't already. i know i shouldn't be surprised, but i'm still fuming!
