I wanted to use this for an internal tool, but am still investigating.
Will be interesting to see how this is used.
S3 has been in the works for 2 years -- glad to hear they launched last night. Congrats, Orit!
Quoted: Amazon S3 provides a simple web services interface that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data, at any time, from anywhere on the web. It gives any developer access to the same highly scalable, reliable, fast, inexpensive data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites. The service aims to maximize benefits of scale and to pass those benefits on to developers.

Amazon just shipped their new attachable volume service for EC2. Now you can mount a persistent store to your instances, and not worry about them disappearing if your instance crashes or is de-commissioned.
Pricing is $0.10 per GB per month plus $0.10 per 1 million I/O requests. Back-of-the-napkin estimate for a 100GB volume used for a high volume web site would cost $36 per month.
