  • Michael's Chabon's "The Yiddish Policeman's Union" has become the first book ever to be nominated for the Nebula, Edgar, and the Hugo awards.

Damn that's impressive. Must be a good book. I'm not familiar with the Edgar as I don't read much mystery, but I love the Nebula and Hugo awards. I recently finished Hyperion - awesome book - which won the Hugo in 1990.

i read "the yiddish policeman's union" a few months ago on recommendation from my dad. yeah, it's good, although very dark. the premise is, instead of turning away jews fleeing the nazis (as in real life), the u.s. gov't allowed them to settle in a special zone around sitka, alaska. now, present day, it's a more or less miserable place, the u.s. is about to expel them, and a drunken suicidal cop works on a murder case that leads him to some big sinister intrigues.

weird. sounds interesting though. I like dark books.
