      The three objectives (portal, ads, platform) seem clearly articulated and well thought out. The only criticism I'd have is that the objectives are not necessarily that different from those of Google, MSN/Live, or even Facebook. But, that's okay. Yahoo needs to believe that it can out-execute the others and leverage existing assets to ultimately claim a larger percentage of the pie.

      For the most part, I agree, but that's because Google has a good strategy. They're quite open to external developers. IMO, Yahoo was at risk of irrelevance - too many walled gardens. I'm glad to see that they're learning lessons from some of the successful properties, like flickr, and opening up APIs, making that a focus. Where I think they're different is in their attempt to be the starting point for users. Google's stated goal is to organize the world's information. Yahoo seems to want to be a little more publishing centric and to give you editorialized startpages. We'll see. I think there's definitely room for multiple successful parties in multiple niches.
