Faves for this Web page
Good article on how ugly websites can be successful. Bottom line: funtionality and simplicity over form.
Quoted: Ugliness has never looked better. I have spent the last few days examining a surprising trend in web design that has made ugly websites look absolutely irresistible. No, its not the bolded, 18 point Times New Roman font shouting at me as I access the page that has me excited, nor is it the harsh colors that have actually managed to make my eyes hurt and distort my vision.

For Sung: who would have thought that an ugly website could actually represent effective design?

read the article and i think the dude didn't consider various aspects.
1. people love free shit. his examples of ugly sites which make money are all FREE
2. people love content over eye candy. eye candy is good for a quick look - but that's about it. think of it like this. you might date a super model - but unless she's got a head on her shoulders you might not want to marry her.
3. association through over exposure. this is something advertisers love and designers hate. association through over exposure - which basically is if you over expose a consumer - regardless of design - they will make the connection. example - ebay is ugly - but the over exposure of the site to users will make them associate ebay with THE online auction site.there are others but i won't go into it now. all in all - the article is 'interesting' to read but completely wrong in my opinion. just cause a site is ugly doesn't mean it'll convey trust, simplicity, etc... it's other factors.

good. that was a glaring copy/paste error - but it's still good to highlight that the original text came from their other services.
