Not that anyone should take the Today Show seriously, but come on, they do need to stop framing this as 'charming' and at least acknowledge the environmental recklessness of this -- not to mention the sheer freakishness. Shame on the Today Show and TLC for validating them.
Quoted: Look, Meredith Viera. It's clear that we're a culture that reveres procreation (See Forbes' list of the Hottest Tots) and treats pregnancy as some kind of grand, enviable accomplishment (see any issue of People magazine, Us Weekly's newish belly n' offspring-watch section), and when viewed through that prism, the Duggars—with their 17 kids, one gestating fetus, and counting, always counting—could theoretically be seen as some kind of role model. ... It's time to drop the pretense. The Today Show is a freak show (see Kathy Lee). Drop the "Isn't this just charming?" tone and start practicing your sideshow speak, "Step right up. This way, folks. See the Woman Who's Been Pregnant For More Than 20 Years and her litter of 18 kids."

Hm, I had no idea there was a huge toxic waste site in Washington state.

Ha, I walk by this place pretty often and I didn't realize it was a Starbucks until someone else told me.

Have you seen TLC's Sunday night lineup? *That* is the freakshow. The Duggars creep me out though. The mom speaks exactly like those FLDS women.
I can't watch that channel unless its Property Ladder, Hope For Your Home or some other real estate/house flipping show. Outside of that its all about people or families of abnormal size or shapes.
lastly, could Jon & Kate +8 be any more boring? if they *didn't* have 8 kids the show could be called "guess how many days before this married couple kills themselves due to boredom"
also, have you seen the episode where the Duggars lecture America about how to be fiscally responsible? high comedy. They explain how they spend and save and how they make income:
they own some commercial rental properties on which the children perform all the maintenance and upkeep as part of their family chores (slave labor). Then the Duggars also own a plot of land on a mountain, that they are currently leasing to three cell phone companies for the placement of a cell tower. And of course the income from the show.
So if you want to be debt free, make your kids work for free, own a choice piece of land and get a tv show.
That was my impression too -- the mom and the new daughter-in-law both speak as though they've had frontal lobotomies. Maybe it shouldn't be surprising since they are nothing but (baby) machines. I've seen Jon & Kate + 8 once. It made me gouge my own eyes out. Is it obvious to anyone else that their marriage is hanging by a thread? I have never seen the Duggar show because Derek doesn't want his televisions in a million pieces. But wow, it sounds even worse than I expected. Amazing. Conservative middle America is officially one giant rabbit hole.
ya it's scary. and the tv show and book is ridiculous. bleh.
