I'm still not buying a freaking PS3, but this game makes me weep over the fact.

Fortunately, many of the things dreamed up by Hugo Gernsback, (Publisher of Popular Mechanics), such as the topless ladies' swimsuit, were widely adopted. - sudha - 22 days ago1 FaverViewed: 3 Times

Not even w/ $100 off?
Nah, $100 off an arm and a leg is still at least a leg, not to mention Sony has been underlined a few times in my shit-list.
Their laser products sure has gotten better since they start putting NEC parts in it I hear. I used to go through their laser stuff left and right. Everyone I knew owned 2 PS1s and 2 PS2s, because one of them failed. Yep, they're junk. I'm all for the WII, WEE!!!!
Making people think they dropped the price is great marketing. They didn't really drop the price, they just upgraded the hardware. At launch there was a $499 model (20GB) and a $599 model (60GB). Now there is a $499 model (60GB) and a $599 model (80GB).
So they cost the same as at launch, except now you just get more for your money.
With 500 GB hard drives routinely selling for $100, I have a hard time believing many people will opt for the spendier SKU @ $100 extra.
Until they package a few hundred gigs, nobody will be able to store all their downloaded stuff on there, which means it's just temporary storage for game demos and movie "rentals".
I think my Xbox 360 disk is only 20 GB, and it's more than enough for the game demos I've downloaded. Since it streams music over the network, that doesn't take up any space either.
Exactly my point. You don't care much about HD space, so if you had bought a PS3 at lauch it would have cost you $499, and now it will cost you... $499. No cheaper.
On the other side of the fence are the people who will always buy the best, and they will still be spending $599. (These are the people that the XBox360 Elite is targeted at)
The 80GB does come bundled MotorStorm, but that game sucks so whoopdedo. I wouldn't pay for the extra 20GB either.
The Xbox 360 Elite is a bigger rip-off than the PS3 (no wireless, no Blu-ray), but yeah.
There's some rumor milling now that the 60GB model is just getting closed out @ $499, after which point we'll be right back where we started, +20 rather useless GB.
Unless they plan to get rid of the 60 Gig version, forcing people to buy their $599 version:

or not?:

Screw you, Sony, I'll take an ugly Xbox bundle over your can't-make-up-your-mind-on-how-you-should-screw-your-users crap:

WOW! What a debate over consoles. I'd say Battlefield 2142 on a nice comp. will entertain everyone's tastes for good. No more debating! :)
Dude you mean the black case isn't worth $80? Pshaw
Another thing that they aren't saying about the new PS3 (80GB) model is that the emotion engine chip has been removed (just like in the european console) in order to reduce console cost. The new boxes will do software emulation instead, which supports a much smaller set of PS2 games (like 30%) then the hardware emulation did (like 98%)
