  • not a bad article talking about whether or not the savings on gas is really worth it in buying a new hybrid.

bottom line is that if your current gas milage is really bad, it might be, but if your current gas milage is close, you'll likely be losing money.

the major benefit of driving a hybrid, however, is lower emissions, which may be well worth the added cost, and the author of this article does point out that if gas prices rise, which they will, the red starts to turn to green, even if your fully gas powered car fairly fuel efficient already...

I didn't see any mention of the cost to replace the batteries? Also no info on where/how we dispose of the batteries once they're used up. Both these factors will have a far greater impact on the "green"-ness as well as the bottom line cost of current hybrids.

e.g. most batteries used to wind up in a toxic dump in China. Unless things have changed that's not exactly a net win for world wide green-ness.

ok, your green skillz are way too l33t! Way to pwn me, thanks!

  • Gas-electric hybrids are the most fuel-efficient passenger cars on the road and ecologically there isn't a more viable option. Until something big changes, though, the industry-high efficiency can't economically offset the steep sticker price.

  • great organization, compelling argument, from the consumer perspective
