One of the quickest ways to increase your productivity on the computer is to go commando: stop using the mouse.

I Dotted this using nothing but the keyboard. I used my trusty "d-o-t" Firefox keyword for launching the Dot This dialog, and used inline search (/) + caret browsing (F7) to extract the quoted text.

The keyboard shortcuts for selecting each field in the Dot window are underlined -- it's usually alt+letter, shift+alt+letter, or apple+letter. The publish button's special letter is U.

Quoted: One of the quickest ways to increase your productivity on the computer is to go commando: stop using the mouse. When you stop relying on the mouse for everything, you're forced to learn the keyboard shortcuts. Jeremy Miller calls this the first step to coding faster. I agree.

      Derek = ruthless efficiency

Now step away from the computer and go grab a cup of coffee or something. You've earned it.

    • ms.kruse - Mar 27 2007

But no lunch. Just coffee. You don't want to get too decadent.

    • jigna - Mar 27 2007

Wait... someone has to pay for his coffee, otherwise he won't leave. You signing yourself up, Franklin?

    • eric - Mar 27 2007

Jeez. I thought about that too. I almost offered to buy him one just to have the image of him taking his headset off, standing up, and walking wordlessly out of the room.

    • ms.kruse - Mar 27 2007

Such a tall drink of water, he is.

    • eric - Mar 27 2007

      If you say so...

    • eric - Mar 27 2007

...and where I grew up, "going commando" was something completely different.

    • ms.kruse - Mar 27 2007

You grew up in Temperance, Michigan too?!

If you want to fly thru your emails, try the mutt mailer. I use it on linux, but I've heard there's a Windows port available. For a good tutorial, just google "My first mutt"

    • derek - Mar 28 2007

I'm a longtime Mutt user -- one of many reasons I like Gmail so much (Mutt-inspired shortcut keys!).

      You are SUCH a nerd.
