Plain good ol' advice that's good to consider

  • Why waste money on shiny packaging and a fancy store when you can find it online and 'pre-owned' for a fraction of the cost? Here are your best buys.

Quoted: Obviously, some things are best purchased new; lingerie pops to mind (see my companion piece, "10 things you should never buy used" for more). But lots of other stuff depreciates quickly while still having plenty of useable life left. Here are 10 items where the cost vs. use equation strongly tilts toward buying used.

So basically any commodity good that loses value after its initial purchase, but that value doesn't go to zero making it capable of a re-sale at a lower price.

What's worse is when people take out loans to buy these things (previously guilty), you get double-screwed by that.

Uhh dude, little kids toys? WTF?

    • uday - Aug 10 2006

the one thing out of these ten I don't buy new is software! Go file sharing..I mean..buying used software.

    • sung - Aug 10 2006

I'll always buy books new (but my students should always buy used!). Everything else I agree with.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty good advice!
