Really good post on the importance of feedback from a user's "audience" that their user-generated content is actually being viewed and appreciated.

Twitter has been so successful because it gives users a concrete model of who is listening to them — it gives them a sense of Audience. Designing for this sense of Audience is a powerful tool to create cohesion and sense of utility among users of a service.
This is great. It neatly captures what we've intuitively been trying to do with Blue Dot / Faves from day one. Having said that, we don't close the "3+1 loops" nearly as well as we should/could.
I think it also helps explain why Twitter can and do Facebook coexist.
