I don't agree that there is a "shakeout" coming. Why can't there be MANY photo sharing sites on the web? As long as they each have a large enough market to sustain their cost structure, we could see all kinds of different versions of photo-sharing services, focusing on different aspects of the market. Customers may even chose to use more than one (as I do).
The mentality of "winner take all" seems to me a throwback to looking at the PC software industry and watching Microsoft displace all its competitors.
While it may be confusing to have to deal with too many providers, consolodation only makes sense for one case - the social networking aspects will have a dominant position as they grow a larger network of users.
I like photobucket personally, the article calls it too simple but for my purposes (posting screenshots on forums etc) it's great.
